About Central Indiana Intergroup
The Central Indiana Intergroup serves OA members in Central Indiana and within the greater Indianapolis area. Our purpose is to carry the message of recovery to those with the problem of eating compulsively by fostering the practice of the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous, guided by the Twelve Concepts of OA Service, and to serve and represent its member groups. We also support and liaise with regional and world OA.
What is an OA intergroup?
When several groups form in an area, they soon realize that they can better perform together rather than separately. So the groups may form an intergroup that is directly responsible to the groups it serves. Intergroups spring from a need to provide service for a number of local groups and better information about OA in a community (adapted from OA Handbook for Members, Groups, Intergroups).
Our Intergroup is the Central Indiana Intergroup (CII) and consists of the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area as well as the central Indiana and surrounding communities. Separate ‘Intergroups’ make up ‘Regions’ and then the ‘Regions’ (10 in all) combine to make up the World Service! CCI is part of Region 5 of Overeaters Anonymous. https://region5oa.org/ Region 5 of Overeaters Anonymous (OA) is made up of Groups and Intergroups in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Southwest Ontario (Windsor to London), and the greater Chicago area, Champaign-Urbana, Decatur, Rockford areas of Illinois. Our Intergroup meets on the third Saturday of each month (except July and December). Anyone can attend- there are no rules about this. The normal makeup of the monthly Intergroup meeting consists of Intergroup Representatives from each OA group in the area when possible, committee chairs, and the Intergroup ‘Board’, which is just a description for the trusted servants who occupy the positions of: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Region Delegates and other relevant positions.
Join your Central Indiana Intergroup Representatives on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:00 – 11:00am at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88622040785.
Typical services provided by an intergroup are:
- Publishing regular newsletters or bulletins to keep groups informed about each other and upcoming OA events
- Coordinating speakers, public information and contact with the professional community
- Maintaining a supply of OA literature and OA and AA books
- Sending delegates to regional assemblies and the World Service Business Conference
Mission Statement
